Largely a lot of us think things that happen to us make us feel the way we do. So, with Monday blues, we assume they are because it is the first day of the week.
However, we need to remember –
No one can make us feel inferior without our consent. Click To Tweet
Thus, it is not the situation, event, or person who makes us feel the way we do, but it is our interpretation of that situation, event, or person. To illustrate this, here is the ABC model –
A–Adversity (the situation that triggers the response)
B–Beliefs (our interpretation of that situation, event or person)
C–Consequence (the way we feel)
Usually, we blame the situation for our behavior or feelings. We think A is responsible for C. But we forget that between the A and C there is a B, which are our beliefs, that make us feel or behave the way we do.
With Monday Blues –
A–Tomorrow is Monday
B–The same old boring job/nagging boss / demanding client…
C–Stress / Anxiety / Restlessness…
Once you understand this model, then you can add a D–dispute to the belief. This will help you uncover why you have these feelings. And once you deal with the root cause, you will see the Monday blues fade away in a jiffy.
