Wish you all a fantastic new year! 2019 will be the year of grand success. This year is a year of grand career breakthroughs. I promise!
But hold on. Let me warn you–if 2018 did not give you what you wanted, then 2019 will also be EXACTLY the same unless you do something drastically different!
So say hello to the new paradigms for the workplace success in 2019 and ensure you have a year of grand career breakthroughs.
Myth 1–You need to perform better than the others
Hell NO! This is one of the biggest reasons you did not get success in 2018! Strive to improve your performance compared to yourself. If you aren’t good at something–learn. If you know but could not do–practice. Strive to be better than your own self.
Fact–You will get grand success when you compete with yourself.
Myth 2–Ignoring people around you will help you work more efficiently
Travel. Work. Travel. Repeat. This mantra did not give you any results for 2018, or did it? Give up on the “I go to the office to do my job” approach. Get involved with your colleagues at the workplace. Set time aside to have conversations with them and let me know if the world around you changes.
Fact–Ignorance could be bliss, but being involved will help you succeed.
Myth # 3–Being busy is cool
Busy doing what? And what did you really achieve? Mark yourself on a scale of 10 (10 being the highest) for progress on the parameters like–Learning, New Ideas, Breakthroughs, Innovation, Visibility, Professional Growth, New projects, and Work-Life Balance. Do you get the hint?
Fact–Busy is the new stupid
Myth # 4–Take pride in doing everything yourself
DIY is a novel sensation on YouTube. A lot of them, but do you do it yourself? If NO was your answer–stop believing that you are a superhuman who can do everything all by yourself at work. Instead, ask for help–not only will you get it but also the person who offers you the help will like you.
Fact–Ask for help, it makes you a powerful person!
Myth # 5 Do a lot of work
Why? Donkeys do a lot of work. Humans use their intellect to figure out a system to get it done fast and efficiently. Spend more time on that. You will have more impact.
Fact–Focus on creating systems and processes
Welcoming the New Year by changing your paradigms is a sure shot way to ensure my promise of 2019 being the year of grand career breakthroughs, becomes a reality.
